Private Piano Lessons

We offer private piano lessons for early-intermediate to advanced level pianists of all ages. Bookings of 45 or 60-minute lessons available.

Private piano lessons are one-on-one lessons between student and teacher that focus on the individual development of the piano player with more intensive study in the areas of piano repertoire, hand-strengthening, technique building, and music theory in practice. Private lessons have a faster progression for the student on the instrument with a more intensive expectation of preparation and practice during the week between lessons. Because private lessons are very limited in availability, they are only offered for early-intermediate to advanced pianists of all ages. Beginners interested in private piano study are encouraged to complete one of our introductory group courses first. If private lesson availability is full, the student can request to be added to our waiting list. Bookings of 45 or 60-minutes lessons are offered.

Required Equipment

The expectation for all enrolled students is that the student will own or rent a piano, digital or acoustic, to practice on at home in between lessons. We recommend, at minimum, a full-keyboard with 88 weighted keys to work with that has a sustain pedal. If you have further questions regarding acquiring an instrument, please contact Mary for more information.

Practice Expectations

Private students can anticipate needing longer at-home practice sessions to meet the demands of the weekly private lesson. The amount of time required is dependent on each student and the level of difficulty on the repertoire being learned. We ask students to be practicing a bare minimum of 20-minutes per day.

Private Piano Lessons FAQs

What is the difference between private lessons and group lessons?

PRIVATE LESSONS

Private lessons offer students one-on-one instruction at the piano for the entirety of the lesson. This makes lessons highly personalized to every individual’s learning style and needs. Private lessons are much more intensive, require significantly more commitment to at-home practice on a quality instrument, and is geared towards the early-intermediate to advanced level pianist. Content assigned in private lesson typically includes working on at least two solo pieces simultaneously, with the addition of hand strengthening and technique building exercises outside of the repertoire selections. Private lessons are limited in availability therefore enrollment is based on a private trial lesson and teacher availability.

GROUP LESSONS

Group piano lessons are a community-based music enrichment courses that revolve primarily, though not exclusively, around the piano. Group lessons offer a healthy mix of individual and group attention from the teacher and run with a minimum of four and maximum of six students. We accommodate each student at individual work stations supplied with a digital piano, personal headphones, and creative supplies. Group lessons also include team-building exercises and meditative, artistic, and listening development activities in the areas of music theory, music history, and music appreciation. Additionally, they offer opportunities for “mini” in-class performances to learn about performance etiquette and tackle performance anxiety. At-home practice on a weighted-keyboard instrument is expected between lessons. Group lessons are geared towards the beginner to late-beginner pianist and we offer various mixed multi-level courses in addition to a separate adult-beginner piano course for ages 18+ and a Wunderkeys group course for ages 3-5. Class placement will be based on teacher evaluation in a private trial lesson (per student wishing to enroll) and on student availability.

Which option is better: Private or group lessons?

Here at Note Worthy Music Lessons, LLC we believe that both private and group learning settings are equally valuable and offer quality learning opportunities for advancement and engagement as pianists and musicians. Private lessons have very limited availability however, are much more intensive, and are piano centric while our group lessons offer more holistic growth in the areas of piano-proficiency, musicianship, team work, and performance practice with an audience. Both options offer ample opportunity for self-directed growth and piano-playing pleasure, and both require at-home practice between lessons. We recommend group lessons for beginners to late-beginners and private lessons for early-intermediate to advanced level pianists.

What is the best age to start private lessons?

The simple answer is: Any age! It is never too early or too late to foster a relationship and practice with music!
However, since our private lesson availability is very limited at this time, we recommend that students interested in private lessons with Mary at Note Worthy Music Lessons, LLC have prior piano experience, with priority given to pianists at the early-intermediate to advanced levels. We hope that beginners of all ages will consider all the positives of our group lesson offerings, take a trial lesson, and express their interest in being added to a waiting list for private lessons if private lesson availability is currently full.
